Othello Mod is a modification for the game Gothic 1 that expands the areas of the Penal Colony and rebalances the game while preserving 100% of the original story. This mod could also be described as a sort of remaster of Gothic 1, and a very well-done one at that. Considering the numbers on our website and the size of discussions in other communities, Othello Mod is regarded as the best and highest quality modification for Gothic 1.
In his mod, Othello has massively reworked and improved the map of the Penal Colony, filling empty spaces and adding new locations, all while maintaining the Gothic atmosphere, making the entire map look much more realistic.
In Othello Mod, similar to New Balance, you have quite a wide range of options for how you will play and develop your character. You have the option to play as classic characters such as Fire Mage, Water Mage, Mercenary, Templar, Guardian, and also the added Guru. The mages have been properly reworked and now have the Intelligence stat (again, similar to NB). Warriors can be played traditionally with Strength, Dexterity, and now also Vitality, which is a stat that increases your Health and is now a legitimate build, as you will find and buy weapons in the game that require Vitality. A new specialty is also a Fist build (there are added jewelry items supporting fist play, similar to the Archolos mod). Replayability is great thanks to these numerous build options and three difficulty levels.
Although Othello Mod retains the original story and quests, some quests have been properly improved, extended, and even received their own location, such as the Almanac quest - Goblin Cave.
Besides all this, Othello Mod has completely reworked systems, and you will find a plethora of new items, recipes - in terms of both alchemy and food, many new items, models, and other things in the game. I call Othello Mod a smaller New Balance mod for Gothic 1.
The Czech and Slovak community can also be pleased that I have prepared a manual translation for Othello Mod.

- Changed graphics in the form of higher resolution textures.
- Added animations from the second part of the game.
- Empty part of the colony was filled with items, enemies and new objects.
- The map has been expanded with new locations.
- Some parts of the terrain have been modified.
- The Brotherhood camp has been completely rebuilt.

Balance:

3 difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard (each difficulty level gives a different number of Skill Points per level)

Skill costs have been adjusted and changed.

Skills now require attributes (e.g., learning trophies requires Dexterity).

Initial health increased from 40 to 100 points.

All chests in the game have changed items.

Maximum health points per level reduced from 12 to 5 points.

Learning now costs magical ore at teachers.

New skills such as smithing, archery, and alchemy.

Reworked skills: trophies now have three levels.

Option to prepare food and fry with the "all" option.

Maximum attribute learning cap increased from 100 to 200.

Combat skills (one-handed, two-handed, bow, crossbow) now have an additional 3rd level.

Requirements for combat skills have been removed: learning crossbow does not require bow skill.

Requirements for learning combat have been removed: learning two-handed combat does not require one-handed combat skill.

Weapons have been completely reworked (their damage and requirements).

Critical hit chance can now be increased up to 100% from various sources.

Circle learning now has fewer chapter restrictions.

A new Intelligence attribute has been added, which increases spell damage by 1 point.

Runes are only available through crafting, they cannot be bought ready-made.

Changed robe statistics + added new robes.

Guild selection affects which runes we can use.

Staves for mages have also been added to the game.

Added one-handed weapons for Dexterity.

Jumping backward during combat is considered a dodge (Gothic 2 mechanic).

Fixed bugs
- No double experience for beating and hitting an opponent from a distance.
- No meat multiplication when panning.
- No steel multiplication when defeating NPCs.
- Bonuses do not count towards learning (e.g. jewels, solid potions).
- Weapon % bonus does not remain after removal.
- The first spell cast after loading the game now has the correct damage.
- Fixed many, many, MANY bugs in the base game scripts.

Plugin compatibility
Mod installation
- Install pure Gothic 1 without playerkits and systempacks, everything you need is already in the Othello mod, including unions and plugins.
- Download and move to the Gothic Othello Mod folder
- Download and move the English version of Othello Mod to your game folder
- If you want to play with Directx11 (graphical enhancement), download - https://github.com/SaiyansKing/GD3D11/releases and put it in the system folder.
Othello Mod has protection against inserting plugins other than those put into the mod by the author, so the game will throw you an error if you try to install plugins not intended for this mod.
Also, it's a good idea to install the Othello Mod separately in a Gothic folder that doesn't have and won't add any other mods, as with New Balance, it can break the game.
