CD-Action MeetUp: Gothic Edition - News from the World of Gothic!

Writer's picture: F0rtunoF0rtuno

Over the weekend, the CD-Action MeetUp focused on Gothic took place, so here’s a translated summary from Polish sources about what happened at the event:

This is how we enjoyed our time with the amazing community of this game.

Aside from a friendly gathering, modders and video creators showcased their upcoming projects.

Saying that a lot happened in the Gothic community during the MeetUp would be an understatement. That's why I invite you to a summary of the most important events and news from the presentations prepared by modders.

I would also like to remind you that in just a month (March 1st), another CD-Action MeetUp will take place, this time with the main theme focused on the Heroes of Might and Magic series. The main attraction will be a meeting with the creators of the upcoming game Heroes: Olden Era.

Hear ye, hear ye...

We gathered once again—after the December meeting with CD-Action shareholders and readers—at the Warsaw club H.4.0.S., which provided us with a great space for gaming, presentations, and casual conversations. Naturally, there was also a store with our magazines and books, including a special CD-Action issue dedicated to Gothic.

The organizers, meaning not only the editorial team but also mod creators and the Doktor Borginson team, started arriving as early as 11:00 AM. The official opening was scheduled for an hour later, but the most impatient fans managed to get inside a quarter of an hour earlier. 😊

For the first attendees, 10 computers were set up, featuring a demo version of the Gothic 2 mod – Golden Gate: Heart of the Goddess. This was the first time that the mod’s development team allowed other players to try out a playable version of the project.

The official part of the event began at 2:00 PM, opened by Barnaba Siegel. It turned out that the initial presentation schedule had expanded to include one previously unannounced project.

And here’s what awaited the attendees of the CD-Action MeetUp.

Nek’s Story (Historia Neka)

The Silver Ore Team has been working for some time on a mod that tells the story of a loyal guard from the Old Camp, whose body and necklace most of us discovered at the beginning of our Gothic 1 playthroughs.

There have been many conspiracy theories about Nek’s fate, and very few believe that a fully armed guard could have been killed by mole rats, which even an untrained Nameless Hero can handle at the very start of his adventure in the Mining Valley.

We already had some information about the mod (and we’ve been following it on the Myrtana website), but during the MeetUp, the developers revealed brand-new details.

They introduced the rumor system, which will allow players to learn about events in the Colony while simultaneously unlocking new side quests.

Another exciting detail is that Nek won’t be another Nameless Hero—instead, players will actively take part in the daily duties of the Old Camp, such as ore deliveries. The Silver Ore Team promises over 100 engaging quests, 5 game chapters, and full Polish voice acting (without AI assistance).

A New Look for the Colony

The map has been built from scratch using vobbing (placing game objects in locations), while the old terrain of the Mining Valley has been enriched with new objects. At this stage, the modders report that approximately 50% of the Prison Colony map has been completed.

Below, you can check out some screenshots from the project.

If you think you’ll just have a laugh at the conspiracy theories about the game’s ending, you’re mistaken. Silver Ore Team is preparing something unexpected, although they don’t want to reveal any details (and trust me, I tried to find out!).

Golden Gate 2: Heart of the Goddess

Last year, the creators of the Golden Gate mod celebrated the 10th anniversary of its release, and during the CD-Action MeetUp, fans had the opportunity to see the latest progress on its sequel.

From the team's presentation, we learned that the world of Golden Gate 2 has been completely designed from scratch, and the player will explore the island of Samoa, which is part of the Kingdom of Elei.

Of course, everything fits seamlessly into the Gothic universe, ensuring that players won’t feel out of place while roaming forests, swamps, or the bustling port town.

Each location will feature an original soundtrack, and according to local legends, the islands of Samoa were the site of dramatic events linked to the bloody cult of the goddess Hatiret.

Players will also encounter remnants of the ancient inhabitants of these lands – the Hasyj people, who were wiped out more than 100 years before the events of Golden Gate 2.

An Expansive, Player-Driven Experience

The modders promise around 30 hours of gameplay, along with 70 non-linear quests, where player choices will impact the world.

Interestingly, the main protagonist is not a "chosen one", but rather a simple hunter searching for the truth about his origins. During his journey, he will also learn more about the fate of the Nameless Hero and his influence on the Kingdom of Elei.

At the event, we also had the chance to listen to samples of the Polish voice acting.

Enhanced Combat System

Great attention has also been given to the combat system, particularly boss fights. Each encounter will feature new visual effects and unique enemy behaviors, making battles more intense and challenging.

For fans of bloody duels, an arena has been introduced, where – as expected – anything goes! Opponents won't hesitate to use various tricks to defeat the player.

Animated Series Set in the Gothic Universe – "Sons of Jharkendar"

A surprise team of creators appeared at our gathering, shocking the Gothic community. It turns out that an animated series set in the world of the Nameless Hero has been in development for some time. The series will focus primarily on Jharkendar, the region from the Night of the Raven expansion for Gothic 2, specifically during its golden age.

The plot will revolve around growing social tensions in Jharkendar, triggered by the discovery of a native tribe living in an area rich in magical ore.

The setting of "Sons of Jharkendar" will be the island of Karynis, with the story taking place approximately 1,000 years before the events of the first Gothic, 13 years after the war between the Jharkendarians and the Orcs.

Just like with Golden Gate 2, sound samples from the first episode of the series were showcased, featuring not only character voices but also ambient environmental sounds.

In the background, listeners could also hear the original soundtrack composed by Adam Dzieżyk, known for his work on various indie games and fan projects.

Rice Lord

As is tradition at Gothic-themed gatherings, this event also featured a friendly card game competition in a fan-made game set in the Piranha Bytes universe – Rice Lord. Inspired by Gwent, this engaging fan project is open to anyone interested in playing.

Moreover, official tournaments are held regularly, offering unique cards as rewards. I had the honor of holding the HoloBeetle – a special card exclusively reserved for tournament winners – and the moment I got home, I started studying the tournament rules.

The Game Features 8 Factions:

  • Khorinis

  • Monsters

  • Mercenaries

  • Monastery

  • Orcs

  • Bandits

  • Undead

  • Neutral Cards (which include the Nameless Hero)

If you're a fan of card games and Gothic, I highly recommend giving it a try! I spent most of the afterparty watching matches and can't wait to build my own (hopefully victorious) deck. 😊

Psst... Something is Coming!

The creators of Rice Lord have hinted that DLC expansions may be released in the future for the base game. So, keep an eye out! 👀

Veritas RP – Gothic in an Online World

Veritas RP is a community-driven project aiming to create an open-world online experience, allowing players to freely role-play in the Gothic universe, running directly on the Gothic engine. The project is growing rapidly, and fans are eagerly waiting for the chance to experience multiplayer Gothic adventures with their friends.

📢 (F0rtuna’s Note – I will provide more details on this project in the coming days, and I will create a dedicated space for it on this website where we can track updates! 😊)

We have already covered this ambitious project in a previous article, but during MeetUp, the developers emphasized their core vision:

👉 The only limit is the player's imagination!

Players will be able to become a blacksmith if they prefer a peaceful life, or a Royal Guard if they crave the thrill of combat. There will be many possibilities, and we are eagerly awaiting more details about multiplayer integration on the Gothic Online platform.

"The Story of the Guard"

Doktor Borginson has already won over fans with his short film "The Story of the Digger". During the MeetUp, an exclusive pre-release screening of his latest work – "The Story of the Guard" – took place.

I won’t go into details, but I can say one thing – it was amazing! And soon, on February 8th, you’ll be able to see it for yourself when it becomes available on YouTube.

The film features the voices of Jarosław Boberek and Mirosław Zbrojewicz as narrators, and we must also highlight the Larp Gothic members, who brilliantly embodied characters from the Mining Valley.

What’s Next?

We can promise that we will be actively working on organizing the next Gothic MeetUp – this time in a different city!

During the event, I had the chance to meet with fans and modders, gathering contacts, which means that soon on cdaction.pl, you can look forward to more in-depth reports on the development of various Gothic modifications.

As they say – stay tuned! 🎮🔥
