Gothic 1: Othello Mod - Info on the upcoming 4.0 update

Here’s a bit of information about the upcoming update for the Othello Mod. The author shares a lot of news exclusively on their Patreon for members, so I won’t be posting those updates here. Firstly, I’m not a member, and secondly, even if I were, I wouldn’t share them publicly. So, let’s take a look at what we do know.


  • The author mentions changes to the Marksman (bow/crossbow user).

  • The author claims that this update will include massive changes and gameplay improvements.

  • Another path (a simplified one) has been added to Kalom’s dungeon for new players.

  • There will be a focus on fixes and improvements in the final chapters (as mentioned in the previous update).

We are continuing to make changes to the visual appearance of armors in the inventory. In the image, you can see how it will look in Patch 4.0!

The changes we will see include a reduction in the health bonus from armors to make the maximum health bonus more valuable for gameplay.


We have improved the in-game texts for people translating the mod into other languages.


We are continuing to reduce the number of herbs in the world. In the end, I removed approximately 1,000 plants. The amount needed to craft potions has been adjusted. Some herbs were grouped together, making it easier to collect more plants in less time.


Blacksmithing and Bowmaking have been adjusted to align with other talents:

  • Level 1 -> cost reduced from 250 to 150

  • Level 2 -> cost reduced from 500 to 450

  • Level 3 -> cost increased from 750 to 900


New belts (for mages) have been added to the game.
