Gothic 1: Reworked - Statement Regarding the Modification – Testing Continues

Writer's picture: F0rtunoF0rtuno

Hello, the testing of the upcoming mod is still ongoing. As you know, I have promoted Reworked here and advertised it as a potential competitor to Othello Mod. For those of you who were excited about it, I have some bad news. But for those who find New Balance and Othello to be overly bloated and prefer more vanilla-style mods, I have good news.

To clarify things – first, I will explain in my own words, and below you will find the official statement from the author. The goal is to correct false expectations and clarify certain points.

Reworked, as a mod, adds a lot of new quests, items, new stats, and countless other additions. However, for now, do not expect anything in the style of New Balance or Othello Mod. I have played the mod myself – the map looks very vanilla, with only minimal changes compared to Othello. On the other hand, this helps to preserve the atmosphere of the old Gothic – it is not overloaded or overly complex, as some might say. The mod introduces some interesting ideas and features that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Additionally, the author plans to continue updating the mod, gradually adding new content and improvements. Right now, it serves as a foundation and a first version.

There has been some miscommunication, as the mod's presentation and some of the author's statements gave the impression that this would be something similar to Othello. However, while you may find some minor elements or inspirations from Othello or New Balance, it is fundamentally different. As a tester, I have already suggested some ideas, and some of them are now implemented in the game. :)

I have only played for a short while due to real-life responsibilities and other work around Myrtana, but the mod looks promising. So far, we have focused mostly on fixing bugs and issues, which is expected in any mod during early testing. Within its genre, this mod will definitely rank among the better ones, and we’ll see what time and future updates bring.

Now, here’s the translated statement from the author:

Statement from the Author – Rezu93

Recently, I had a very interesting discussion about modding, and I decided to address it with a statement. I feel that the announcement of my mod and what has been showcased so far might have created expectations that could, unfortunately, remain unfulfilled. Since I don’t want to disappoint anyone and I want to be honest with everyone, I’d rather have people understand this now instead of getting hyped for the release and being disappointed later.

My mod is an expansion of the original Gothic 1 world, preserving its atmosphere while introducing new mechanics, improvements, and a more detailed story. Instead of completely rebuilding the world, I chose to enhance it, adding more details, hidden items, new interactions, and better balance.

If you're expecting a massive world expansion like Othello Mod or an even more extensive rework like New Balance, this is not the right direction. My goal was to create an experience that stays true to the foundation of classic Gothic while giving the player more freedom and options.

I have developed new RPG mechanics, allowing for greater character-building freedom, introduced Quality of Life improvements that enhance the gameplay, reworked difficulty scaling, and added various challenges – especially the Torment Mode, which is aimed at hardcore players, as opposed to the standard mode, which will be more accessible.

Additionally, I have worked on new quests expanding the world’s story, restored missing lore, and improved consistency in world-building as much as possible.

In this mod, you will experience a more complete and expanded version of Gothic 1.

This mod is made for those who love Gothic 1 and want to experience it in a modernized and more polished form without losing its original spirit.
