In this article, Damianut discusses the One Year Anniversary of the Gladiator modification and international collaboration on this mod. Below you will have a translated introduction, a section mentioning Czech and a bonus - a possible outline of Gladiator 2.
Intro
About a year ago, the total-conversion of Gothic II: Night of the Raven - Gladiator - came out, and coincidentally, it was on Men's Day. The modification by OrtegaX & Damianut & the Gladiator Team is loosely based on the Swords and Sandals game series, with tournaments taking place in successive arenas in the kingdom of Panamatu.
A patch for it was released last year, which significantly redesigned two locations, added new soundtracks and fixed many bugs, which you can read about in the changelog. On the anniversary of its release, however, instead of focusing on what the modification is, I'm going to talk about the international collaboration of Gothic fans that Gladiator made possible.
Czech
Shortly after its release, Auronen, a Czech modder and co-creator of the Switch ports of Gothic I and Gothic II and the AF Script Packet used in modern mods, proposed the release of Gladiator on the Weblate platform. The latter allows you to work on script modification and translation into multiple languages simultaneously. By a twist of fate, I became a tester of his, as yet unreleased, DaCoDe tool, which allows you to create finished scripts with translations.
It is not the only Czech track in Gladiator. The music was created by BadamB, a Czech composer, and the 3D models for the patch were perfected by Triber - also from the Czech Republic. By the way, the two aforementioned Gothic fans are currently working together on the Arkona modification. The translation of Gladiator itself into Czech was done by F0rtuno from Myrtana.net, who published it in July.
BONUS
There are ten arenas in the Kingdom of Panamatu - and players could complete four of them. This is the result of a poll1 in which OrtegaX asked whether it was better to prepare all of them - or to release only part of them, to make sure the modification idea made sense. After it passed, Gothic fans rightfully asked us about a sequel. One of them - Silas Serdar, aka Gabriel von der Leier - the voice actor of the German localization of Gladiator wanted it so much that he started coming up with the outline of his script himself. Will his ideas be realised? I can't say.
He started coming up with them right after the German dub was released, and a few months ago he agreed to publish an outline. So far I've been sending it to players occasionally, but the anniversary of the release is a good time to get it out to a wider audience as a gift. It is available in English and also in Czech by me. :)
