The last news here was about the game Cralon, developed by Pithead Studio, founded by Bjorn and Jennifer Pankratz. This time, however, we have other former Piranha Bytes developers who founded Brainlag Games and have announced their first game, Rootbound.
Rootbound is a physics-based action-adventure about the journey of a plant-like creature striving to save its home from a mysterious blight. Equipped with a sentient backpack, you venture into a fractured world. Encounter lost souls, solve ancient puzzles, fight dangerous monsters, and uncover the secrets of a long-forgotten civilization.
EXPLORE THE WORLD
Every corner of the handcrafted island of Akara is filled with secrets and activities. Learn what happened to the ancient civilization that once ruled the land, and make use of their lost technology. Solve puzzles to obtain powerful weapons and valuable upgrades – they will prove useful for the challenges that lie ahead.
Brainlag Games was founded after the closure of Piranha Bytes in 2024 by Maki Dieffenbach, Markus Kloß, Amadeus Weidmann, and André Hotz.
Markus Kloß – During and after his computer science studies, he gained several years of programming experience in the IT services industry before joining Piranha Bytes as a gameplay programmer.
Maki Dieffenbach – After completing her computer science studies, Maki specialized in games and gained initial experience in the indie scene. Later, at Piranha Bytes, she worked on graphics, engine, tools, and console versions.
Amadeus Weidmann – After finishing his studies, he released Sniperboy with his own company before joining Piranha Bytes as a story writer and game designer.
André Hotz – After graduating from SAE Institute, he joined Piranha Bytes in 2000 and worked as an animator and technical artist on Gothic 1–3, Risen 1–3, and ELEX 1&2.
